Indonesia Palm Oil

“Palm oil is the dirtiest ingredient on our shelves today” - Joanna Blythman, journalist and author.
Indonesia is the world's largest producer of palm oil, supplying over half of the global market. Many believe that the Orangutan, being devastated by the loss of forest due to palm oil biofuel plantations, is under greater threat from the renewable energy industry than the polar bear is from the ice caps melting. I visited a several palm oil forests during my time in Indonesia and saw first hand how this is affecting the habitats of the Orangutan and other species native to these areas. While capturing the negative side of this industry, I also documented those who are working to save these animals and the world they live in. This project is what kicked off a spark in me to document the hardships going on in the world but also the inspirational people and organisations that are working tirelessly to fix the mess that we continue to make.
